Buffalo vs. Maple Leafs

Hockey day in Canada!!!
I mean hockey day in the Mrs. L's room.

They picked the teams, made positions, made the score board, created nets and jerseys. They made rules about sitting on the bench and you have to listen to the ref.

Their team Jersey's with names and numbers.
Ref dropped the puck at center ice.
The ref is Liam and the puck... A plastic mound of rice from the kitchen center.
X and J are sitting on the bench waiting for their shift.
All the hockey players hung up their jersey's until the next game.

Some wow moments in the day

Today seemed the day for team work and problem solving.
Good job friends!!!
The children worked together to find the correct number of toys to go with their number.

The girls worked together making this hoop into a different shape and sorted the blue tiles by shades of blue.
These ladies shared blocks from their house with the boys. Then realized their was too small. R the construction worker, had the great idea to push the walls back so that R could fit in. N tried using small blocks to build new walls since they gave the big block to the boys.
These 2 boys were waiting for me to help them build this train track. L came to get me to show me what he and X accomplished on their own. They followed the instructions!!!!

SK graduation pictures.

On January 27th the SK's will have their kindergarten celebration photos taken. What a nice keepsake to have for your child moving on to grade one.
Photos will probably be done in the morning.
It is also jersey day. Your child can still have a jersey on, we can help them to remove it or put it on over their clothing. You can send a change of clothing also if you don't want dress clothes ruined.
A cap and gown will be provided and tie is optional. The pictures look nice with or without. It is your preference.

PALS

We'd like to welcome Mrs. Edmunds to our classroom. She will be teaching the children our PALS lessons everyday.
The children are already showing her what great skills they have. They are loving what Mrs. Edmunds brings to our class everyday.

Literacy hour and cookies!

Today we had great fun with reading buddies from Mr. Holland's grade 5 class.  And as s special treat, a few of the students baked chocolate chip cookies to share during the story time.

Winter Weather

Since the weather has been cooperating with us, we've been able to get outside and enjoy the snow!
Please remember we go outside 3 times a day, weather permitting. It might be a great idea to send 2 pairs of mitts, extra socks, hat, snow pants, boots, and even a neck warmer if needed.
Have your child practise getting dressed and undressed. We even practise turning sleeves and pant legs right side out.
Please label everything. We have 102 pairs of black mitts.

Make fake snow

This was a fun and messy experiment.
The children made fake snow.
They observed it works differently then real snow.
Our classroom smells so nice because of it too.

Racing Cars

The children made up this new racing game. It's hot a new spin on it from the ABC racing we did earlier. This time there was a score keeper and an official. They measured to see how far each persons car went and the winner got a point.

Gym class

Here are just a few moments of our gym class. We are having an obstacle course with the other class.

Centers

We have begun "Centers" in our classroom. This is when we break into 5 small groups and the children work collaboratively. They enjoy this short time together practicing new skills.

Random Moments

The girls have made a house out of chairs. Everyone is just hanging out in the house.
The boys wanted to make a swimming pool for the lego guys. Then they discovered sinking and floating.
The boys had a bowl of ice from the ice rinks we made. They wanted to melt it with warm water to make a pool.
Creating a space ship with magnet tiles.
We made fake snow! The recipe is 2 boxes of cornstarch and 1 can of shaving cream. Mix!
The children are learning to journal. They are sounding out and writing words. They draw picture clues. Here this child has drawn what he built with Lego, an ice cream truck!
