Zoo

What an amazing trip to the zoo! This inquiry all started by M sharing his trip to the zoo. His mom emailed me some pictures of their day trip which opened up a world of discussions, observations, and creativeness.

We made a list of questions we want to learn about
The children became authors and illustrators of their own zoo books.
The penguin aquarium that many of the children have seen at the Detroit Zoo.
The children created enclosures for their animals. They had to learn about their habitat, so that their animals lived happily.
We created a graph, the categories where 4 different habitats. The children had to sort all the different kinds of animals. Then they changed it on their own...feathers, fur, scales and fins.
The children painted the different areas around the world where the animals come from. Their natural environments.
They are a painting a jungle, forest, dessert, arctic and oceans.

The children work together to add details to their paintings.
All the animals have been sorted into their homes. They took turns being the zoo keeper.
Here is the admission gate at the zoo where the children had to use their money to buy tickets.
They made the tickets and had to use their knowledge of money to buy a ticket.
